Essentials of a Relationship
Being in a relationship is an integral part of a person’s life. There is never an moment when you are not a part of one. From the minute that you are conceived and all throughout your lifetime, forging relationships has become an unending task. For starters, you are in a relationship with your family, then with friends, and eventually with a special someone. Maintaining healthy relationships is important.
Passion is necessary in order for both partners to enjoy a healthy relationship. Sharing values, setting goals, and having a common lifestyle preference would make a good foundation for a flourishing and successful connection. Here are some of components that prove to be vital in preserving a healthy union.
Communication
An honest and open communication is the best foundation. It involves sharing one’s thoughts, views, and emotions. Through this, trust will be developed between you and your partner.
Expectations
It is natural to expect certain things from your partner and in turn he or she has expectations from you too. More often than not, this becomes the root of a problem but the key in making things work is a realistic expectation of your other half. Sensible expectations will most likely be met and as a result both partners will be satisfied and happy.
Gratification
Two types of gratification exist. One is that of a physical nature such as safety, sensuality, and sexuality. The other is of the emotional kind encompassing love, care, and affection. In order to attain a healthy relationship, both you and your partner should be honest with your needs so as not to keep the other guessing. With the partner’s willingness to meet those needs in a long term basis, problems will surely be eradicated.
Trust
Confidence in your partner’s character including abilities and strength will support rational trust. This will be attained if the partner exhibits that he or she is worthy of your trust and does not do anything to make you doubt his fidelity.
Influence
This component deals with who is in control and who leads the two of you. Thriving on each partner’s capabilities to work together and make compromises whenever conflicts arise. Neither of the two partners should be dominating, instead each of you should be supportive of the other’s strengths for conflicts to be resolved thereby meeting both of your needs.
Limitations and Sociability
Autonomy of each partner is imperative while keeping a strong sense of self will contribute to the success of the relationship. Otherwise, he or she will be consumed and will lose one’s self in the process. Establishing boundaries is also important in defining the totality and individuality of your partner. This will be of enormous help in creating a balanced social network.
