Creating Treasured Moments With Your Family.

Usually a person can look back on their youth and find areas in which they can associate good memories with. It might be with siblings, parents or grandparents. These good times are the foundations of deep seeded relationships. Having these experiences teaches a person how to create these experiences with other people and as a result, a person grows closer to others. My family was not much different from many other families.

There were times when my mother would be in the kitchen making something for supper, and she would want us to come in and help. You could never be sure if we were actually helping or not. There were times when her new anodized cookware set would be dropped on the floor adding another dent or scratch to mar its luster. She handled this all with the patience of a saint and helped us clean up whatever mess we had made. As a result, we all seemed to develop a love for cooking and baking.

Each moment spent with mom is one that is treasured, although there are plenty more memories each just as special. One of those moments was family game nights. Once a board game came out, we all rushed to be the first to pick the player pieces. Some how back then we were under the impression that certain pieces were just more fun than other ones. Now it is simply a matter of who is playing the game with you and not the color or the piece that you play with.

Another rather enjoyable time that we all seemed to share together was sitting around the scrapbook album that my mom made. Each page was lovingly hand detailed to the specific individuals displayed upon it. Often you could see her love in how each page was arranged. Every picture was carefully placed, loving or witty phrases surrounding it helped us to remember and cherish those special moments.

Often what gave them pleasure is things that made us happy, so watching us laugh and tell stories about the pictures in the album was a rare gift they could treasure. One of my favorite images in that album was of the day we went to watch the baseball game. The echoing sounds from the fans warred with the scent of freshly roasted peanuts adding to our excitement.

With a soda in hand we took our seats in the stands. Just as we started sitting the the batter stepped up to the plate, with each practice swing his black helmet shone in the sunlight. As the ball flew towards him he lifted the bat and as it connected it flew off the bat towards our seats. We all stood trying to catch it, my mother snapped a picture as the ball landed in my hands.

With so many special family moments, my family enjoyed making each and every one of them. Perhaps my children will make some treasured family memories with me.
